South Molton 1 v 4 Braunton FC – 02/10/2011 - League
Our third league game of the season took us to South Molton FC. The game started with both teams fighting for possession, however, Brauntons midfield slowly began to pressure the opposition and take more control of the game. A better sense of positioning, passing and determined tackling from the midfield enabled Braunton’s Jordan Nott an early chance on goal, just shooting wide. Superb performances from Jak Daglish and Bradley Norman, both in midfield, allowed the team to keep their shape and create further chances as the game progressed. The first half ended with Jak Daglish running through on the South Molton defence and scoring the first goal.
As soon as the second half had started South Molton equalised, Braunton failed to clear the ball from the penalty area and were punished. The Braunton team reacted well and minutes later, Ethan Smith crossed the ball in for Jak Daglish to score his second of the game. A third goal was scored by Bradley Norman who never stopped working for the team. The highlight of the game was the fourth goal when Jak Daglish made an excellent defence splitting pass from midfield, to play super Sub Archie Kingdon in on goal and score. South Molton scored a second goal when they benefited from a defensive mistake, again failing to clear the ball, an aspect of the game we must work on.
Positives from this game were the pressing, passing and creativity from the midfield; it was excellent today and showed that we are beginning to play as a team.
Well done boys a good result.
A special mention goes to our water boy, Andy Norman, who supplied half time refreshments on an unusually hot October morning. Cheers Andy!
Braunton FC 0 v 3 Barnstaple Youth – 25/09/2011 – Cup
Braunton FC came up against a good and well organised Barnstaple Youth team in a Cup fixture which saw Braunton FC lose 0-3. The early part of the game was evenly balanced until Barnstaple Youth scored their first goal. Braunton tried to come back and were unlucky not to have drawn even when Jordan Nott broke through from midfield. Barnstaple then scored their second goal and the Braunton team allowed this to affect them. One or two players went missing and heads went down. Barnstaple came out from half time full of confidence and 10 minutes later scored their third. Joshua Bradford in goal made some outstanding saves and Braunton’s Man of the Match, defender Kai Hall, used his fantastic tackling skills to help a beaten Braunton side to not concede any further goals.
A lack of self belief in some, poor ball control in others and poor passing will serve as a good lesson for all in the future.
We all realise we are a newly formed team and there will be ups and downs throughout the season, and on occasions today we did show some good potential.
Braunton FC 3 v 0 Eastside – 11/09/2011 – League
Braunton FC played at home against a determined Eastside team in their second game of the season. Both teams started well in the early part of the game and there were a few chances for both sides. Braunton started to gain more of the match and took the lead through a penalty confidently taken by Jak Daglish who, then went on to score a second goal before halftime. The second half started with Eastside looking to get back into the game, but with some good defensive play and excellent goalkeeping, Braunton scored a third goal by Ethan Smith.
A good team performance and determination from all players gave Braunton FC their first win of the season. Well done boys!
Barnstaple Youth 1 v 0 Braunton FC – 04/09/2011 - League
Braunton FC U10’s introduction to the league took them to Tews Lane where we met a well established Barnstaple Youth team. During the first half, we were put under pressure but our new team responded well with some good football, crunching tackles and outstanding saves. The team’s hard work was undone in the last few minutes of the first half when Barnstaple Youth went 1 – 0 up. The second half saw Braunton try to pull level but were left open at the back as Barnstaple scored a second. There were many positives to be taken from the game as the team worked hard and did themselves proud.
Another positive from the day, came from a 1-0 win to Braunton FC in the Friendly game played after the league match. Well done lads.
